Maggie Looking DownOctober 2007____________________________________
We're off for a three day show in Richmond, VA at (be still
basefinder's heart!) the Richmond Raceway. The show is stretched across three connected buildings, one of which has a huge, gaudy racecar painting across a part of one wall. Just for you,
basefinder I'll take and post a picture.
I've been doing lots of shutter clicking lately. Much of it's been posted to the various flickr accounts, but nothing much has made it here. The weeks before these three day shows are more than full and busy.
In the meantime, I'll leave you with one of my favorite cat portraits of late. And, yes, as
victory_rose pointed out in a flickr comment, I took slight creative liberites with Maggie's eyes. (The shot was about at a 1/15 second, handheld and slightly blurred. Maggie's eyes were more washed out than they should have been)
Have a safe weekend, y'all.

Date: 2007-11-05 04:55 am (UTC)we were set up across from a guy who does spiritual-based calligraphy (http://www.michaelnoyes.com) and spent a lot of the weekend discussing spirituality, our relationship to God, faith and belief.
we also sold some jewelry, but the conversations were really far better. :)

you were thought of frequently, and always with a weary shake of the head. :)

Date: 2007-11-05 05:23 am (UTC)This weekend NASCAR was in Texas -- so Denise has spent four days at the track. I've been watching all the TV coverage, and we've been texting during the day and talking on the phone at night.
Since our ride-alongs, I'm more familiar with the infield and the track itself, so I pick up more from the TV coverage. I'm looking forward to going down for the April races.
If you and Bonn would like to join us, I'll check into getting extra tickets....

off to do a show
Date: 2007-11-06 06:22 pm (UTC)Re: off to do a show
Date: 2007-11-07 02:32 am (UTC)the high points were being set up across from michael noyes (http://www.michaelnoyes.com) and a pretty neat kid from williamsburg to our right. oh, and finding a really good chain thai restaurant in a huger southpoint-like mall in richmond.
the low points were people who simply were not shopping for chirstmas yet. very strange -- first year we could remember this happening to the extent it was happening over the weekend. i'm guessing the economy is really just that bad. i'm hoping that means greensboro will be filled with people who need to start their christmas shopping NOW!
speaking of which, we're planning on doing thanksgiving dinner at whatever hotel the gilmores have for their "host hotel." apparently they have a 'traditional' all-you-can-eat buffet dinner there for around $20/head. we're meeting michael noyes there that night. you're more than welcome to join us if you're staying in the area!

Re: off to do a show
Date: 2007-11-07 12:41 pm (UTC)the buffet is at the Park Lane. It has it's good points and it's bad points. There's a lot of meat.... but usually the salad is good and I just don't ask how those veggies were prepared..... here's the deal with that show. i'm signed up, paid and even have a reservation at the Park Lane. however, my wholesale business continues to the point that i simply don't think i will a) have enough, whatever that amount is, b) be able to walk away for 4 days while i need to be in the studio making more blessings bowls.... this fall they have truly been a blessing! i am doing the Durham artwalk next weekend. if i have a decent show, which is modest by all accounts, then i will cancel greensboro.
Chantilly sales were my most expensive work and a lot of the cheapest... i talked with a supplier yesterday that i have a good rapport. her take on things is exactly what we're seeing. it doesn't matter how the government spins it, the economy sucks.... those who have secure jobs are mostly okay, although the new higher gas prices are going to pinch. everyone else is in some form of struggle. expect more of the same until well after the election next fall.....
Re: off to do a show
Date: 2007-11-07 05:45 pm (UTC)Given the state of the economy if you have anything thats selling well, by all means stick with it! The bangles have long been our bread & butter, but we've been selling them for a while now and there are only so many bangles we can sell to so many people. Blessing bowls sound like a very good deal!
We were selling lower end bangles and some of Bonn's lower end earrings. Some people took the time to look at Bonn's higher priced items, but there were very few nibbles.
We're heading back to Scotland in the early part of December. The dollar is even weaker now than it was last year. We're thinking we'll be eating in a lot while we're there (unless bangle sales really pick up at Greensboro).

Re: off to do a show
Date: 2007-11-07 07:57 pm (UTC)you learned the monetary pitfalls in Scotland last year, right? even with a pitiful dollar exchange you'll still be able to enjoy yourselves.
Re: off to do a show
Date: 2007-11-07 08:20 pm (UTC)i think we ate more mcdonalds french fries in london than we've eaten in the us for several years. we managed on a lot of bread and cheese as well (both cheap and portable).
this year we're only going for 2 weeks instead of three, so the money won't have to stretch out quite so far. still, i'm not expecting any gourmet meals. just meals would be fine.
and whiskey.

Re: off to do a show
Date: 2007-11-07 08:29 pm (UTC)last year i bought a ring for me and a pair of earring for Gene to give the secretary from a Canadian jeweler who stamped tiny interesting words in her silver. not to everyone's taste, interesting though... blessings bowls are their own special catagory.....
Re: off to do a show
Date: 2007-11-07 08:33 pm (UTC)i found a place online in scotland that advertises "vegetarian haggis" although i really wonder just how vegetarian it can be.
i am planning on being far more adventurous this year with food than last. last year i managed to somehow forget my nexium, which made for an increasingly difficult (and expensive) three weeks (downing generic tagamet every few hours). if nothing else, i'm hoping i'll have some interesting LJ posts from the food!
...
Re: off to do a show
Date: 2007-11-07 08:48 pm (UTC)I will never spell this right, but generally it's e-pilori that causes the need for nexium. chicken is a big offender. i'll ask my pal Sally where else that bacteria is found in the food world... also how to spell it....
Re: off to do a show
Date: 2007-11-07 08:53 pm (UTC)real foodies always take pictures of their food when going out to eat, especially in different countries. (maybe i'll have to try it in mcdonalds this year)
my doctor (and i) thinks nexium is just masking something far more sinister in my system. it doesn't always work, which isn't right and if i don't take it on a daily basis i start having trouble within a few hours. that's not right, either.
now if i can just find time for the awful tests they want to have done on me to see what else might be going wrong in my stomach...
