Hey, Baby, It's the Fourth of July

"What ever happened darlin', I apologize
so dry your tears and baby
walk outside, it's the Fourth of July
On the stairs I smoke a cigarette alone
Mexican kids are shootin' fireworks below
Hey baby, it's the Fourth of July
Hey baby, Baby take a walk outside"
Fourth of July by X
It's a quite Fourth of July weekend for us this year. For the second year in a row we're not doing the Festival for the Eno -- and for the second year in a row, they're having nice weather for the show. I'm not willing to believe there's a correlation. (I'm also not doubting that it would be unGodly hot again if we ever decided to do the show again)
Instead, I'll be very happy for the visual and musical artists who are out there, as well as the paying crowd and the show organizers.
From the comfort of my air conditioned living room.
Former next-door neighbors contacted me about a week ago and mentioned they had three eight week old all black kittens. They were going out of town for the weekend of the Fourth and already had someone lined up to check in on the kittens, but we could come over and see them if we were interested. I offered to check in on them instead and went by on Thursday night to see their new place and to meet the kittens.
After getting home and telling Bonn about them she came into the kitchen and gave me a very well-reasoned list of Why We Can't Adopt Any of Them. And, so far, I haven't brought any of them home.
It helps that they're all siblings and very involved in playing with each other. It also helps that I'm just the Hired Hand that comes in, feeds them, takes the outside to play and brings them back inside. I'm not their Human, I'm their Shade from the sun. I'm the Temp who tends to them. They have very little eye contact with me.
I've only named one of them so far (dangerous, I know). I call him Climber for obvious reasons.
Cute kitten pictures to follow.
Meanwhile, I'm spending the weekend writing or, thanks to a co-werker who gave me a wireless router, studiously avoiding writing.
Happy Fourth, y'all Freedom Fries-loving Yanks.
And Happy Future Fourth to all of you non-Yanks that we haven't gotten around to spreading democracy to yet. I'm sure we'll be around your way soon enough!
