Swirled Lights

Yeah, so, let's just forget about the pictures from this past weekend's opening, shall we? After messing with them in the post-camera photographic enhancement software for a few nights Bonn finally took a look at them. She proclaimed them to not only be awful (my term for them) but "an insult to the people you photographed" and then gave me a look that meant "you really don't know what you're doing with all of this photography stuff, do you?" but, instead, asked how much we were paying to have the film developed.

"About six bucks," I said.

"Six bucks a picture?!" she asked.

"No, no," I reassured her. "Six bucks for the whole set of them."

Maybe I should have taken Seren up on her offer to let me borrow her digital camera for the summer after all.

So, anyway, the pictures were of Seren, Dan'l and Midori'sMom, each standing in front of their favorite image on the wall at the opening. Well, I knew who they were because I took the pictures. Dan'l's actually came out reasonably well, except for the irratic lighting on the wall. Seren came out with so many shadows across her face that she was not only unrecognizable but she looked hideously deformed. ("Oh, but I still want to see them," she told me last night. "No. No you don't," I replied.) Midori'sMom was recognizable only because even the difficult lighting (the only lighting in the room was focused on the hung, framed photographs) couldn't hide her fuchsia wig and bright pink dress.

It's a shame, really, because there were really three stand-out highlights of last weekend: Seren's opening, the drive through the mountains on Saturday and meeting Midori'sMom and her husband, TessTickle'sBrother.

Seren had told us about Midori'sMom and Tess'Brother for a long time and we've managed to miss each other every time we've been out there. Meeting them was one of those very rare instances where you meet someone for the first time and it feels like you've known them for years. It's only happened a few times in the past many years, interestingly enough with a father (The Gardener) and his daughter (The Boy's Godfather's wife) and it's a rare treat when it happens.

Without a reliable camera I've been starting to get some of the old slides from the late '70s/early '80s ready to do some entries on people who were important to me back then, some of whom I'm still in contact with. Hope you won't mind indulging me a bit.
