Bonn pointed out the lack of butterflies this year. She'd heard/read a story (somewhere?) about a large percentage of the monarch butterfly population simply not being here this year. By this time in the year we usually see quite a lot of them in the back yard; this year, here's the only one I've seen thus far.

Danny and I saw butterflies during the weekend at the cottage earlier this month. It was magical: there was still snow in the hollows and butterflies in the sunshine. In the woods we saw a mourning cloak. On the road we saw some little orange and black butterflies I don't know by name.
