Three Bits o' Gratitude for the Day: Photography Edition
1. Photography
Being a photographer has helped me be aware of my world and learn to look at it in different ways.
2. Digital Photography
Back in my days of film photography I shot a lot of slides because they were considerably cheaper to process than photographs. I didn't shoot that often because I didn't have the $10+ shooting & developing a roll of film would take. Then, one day, I heard someone say, "You have to take 10,000 images before you take your first good one."
I believed that and hung up my camera. I didn't have the money it was going to take to become a good photographer, so I stopped.
Until I we got our first digital camera. No development costs changed everything.
3. Photoshop
What an amazing bit of software. Being able to crop, rotate, color correct… I am by no means a Photoshop expert, but I do know how to do enough with Photoshop to be able to salvage and/or improve my images.
See that hawk at the top of this entry? It was out of focus, dive-bombing my head. I was shooting blind -- I didn't even realize I was being dive-bombed until I heard people telling me that's what had happened. If this was a film image it would have been unusable. Tweak the heck out of it in Photoshop and while it isn't a great image, it's at least somewhat interesting. (Or so I think.)
