Back in my Kite Site days I had started to imagine myself to be something of a photographer. Then, one sunny afternoon, I saw a guy with a camera stop in front of the shop and look at the silver mylar balloon we always had tied out front. He took out his camera and took a quick self-portrait of himself in the balloon's reflection.

His ability to see something so unique in what I had come to see as commonplace and somewhat dull bowled me over. I almost hung up my camera after that.

(And, in a way, I suppose I did because soon thereafterI heard -- and believed -- that you need to take 10,000 photographs before you take your first Good photo. I couldn't afford the film and developing costs.)

Since digital cameras have revolutionized photography it has made taking photos almost a daily thing for me. Sure, there are lots of pictures of the cats, but the biggest thing is that I'm pushing myself to constantly see things differently -- just like that guy outside the Kite Site decades ago.

I've about given up trying to develop my Artsy Point of View. When I try for those amazing shots they end up in the "why did I take that?" category. Most of my better pics are accidental.

For the most part, I'm happy with workmanlike documentary shots.
